KANAI MUSIC SHOP on TONOMACHI STREET

I visited Kanai Music Shop in March 2024.

It was the first time in about 40 years.

The store still existed as it had always been.

Memories from high school days came back to me.

I was happy.

In the 1970s, as a young boy, I often rode my bicycle to Kanai Music Shop on Tonomachi Street.

It’s about 3 kilometers from my home to Kanai Musical Instruments. I pedaled my bike for about 20 minutes.

The shop had three major selections: records, musical instruments, and sheet music.

I mainly looked at records.

I often looked, but rarely bought.

The price of the LP was 2500 yen.

With my pocket money, I couldn’t buy even one record a month.

I could only buy a record when I saved up my pocket money every month or when I received a New Year’s Money Gift.

So I think I only bought a few records throughout junior high and high school days.

I read the sheet music from time to time in the shop.

The sheet music was also quite expensive. It wasn’t something a child could afford.

I may have bought about 2 throughout middle school and high school days.

I saw very few musical instruments.

I love musical instruments, so now that I think about it, it seems strange that I didn’t see it.

I guess I thought it was pointless to just look at it because it was too expensive to buy.

A few memories of that remain.
